2 studs and 1 dud from start of Chargers training camp
Chargers training camp is officially under way and some players are taking advantage more than others.
Chargers training camp officially got underway on Wednesday as the team welcomed back a hoard of fans chomping at the bit to see the Bolts in person. The initial wave of training camp is always exciting as it represents the beginning of what fans hope is a long journey.
There is a lot that can be learned early on in training camp but it is also important to not take too much stock in what is happening. Every NFL team looks good in practice when they are going through it. That should not be forgotten.
Instead, the bigger lessons (especially this early on in camp) are on the individual level. A lot can change as we go through camp and the preseason but there are three players that have stood out thus far for various reasons.
Somehow, someway, J.C. Jackson was able to get fully healthy for the start of Chargers training camp. That seemed impossible last year when Jackson ruptured his patellar tendon in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks. It seemed like a safe bet that Jackson would miss half of the 2023 season.
Instead, he is on track to play in Week 1 for the Chargers as long as he does not suffer any setbacks. The fact that he was able to come in and be ready for the very first practice is a massive step and fans should not be worried about his availability in the regular season.
With Jackson healthy and in the fold, the Chargers have one of the deepest cornerback rooms in the entire sport. That being said, the depth and the fact that Jackson is returning has made another player in that very same room the biggest dud thus far of camp.
